Across-Field Warm-Up
Warm-up soccer drill to get players prepared for games or practices.
This soccer warm-up drill will focus on one-touch passing, two-touch passing, receiving, chest traps, thigh traps, and heading. This warm-up drill is a great start to get many touches and movement prior to practices or games.
Drill Setup
- Divide the team into pairs of two with one ball for each pair.
- Have the players face each other.
- The player facing the field will jog forwards where the player with their back to the field will jog backwards.
Drill Instructions
- The player jogging backwards will start with a pass to the player running forwards.
- The player jogging forwards will then pass back to the player jogging backwards.
- Once the players reach the opposite side of the field, they will reverse the roles.
- Once both players move across the field, one of the following skills are performed:
- Receive the ball with the inside of the foot and pass with the opposite foot.
- Receive the ball with the outside of the foot and pass with the same foot.
- Receive a ball off the thigh and return the ball to the other player.
- Receive the ball off the chest and return the ball to the other player.
- Head the ball back to the other player.
Drill Coaching Points
- This movement is meant to get the players warmed up and moving.
- Good accurate passes with proper weight on the passes as they are moving forwards towards the ball, or backwards away from the ball.
- Good touches and placement of the ball when receiving passes.
