This passing soccer drill is a fun soccer drill that kids love. This game focuses on possession, passing, and dribbling. Players should be encouraged to hold possession by passing around and when it's time dribble with speed to beat the defenders.
Drill Setup
- Create a square about 35X35 yards and inside this square create another square about 25X25 yards.
- Assign 3 defenders to start in the smaller square. These defenders are limited to this square only and should never come into the larger square while they are defenders.
- The rest of the players are attackers and should be positioned outside the small square, but inside the larger square.
- The attacking players start with two balls.
Drill Instructions
- The attackers pass and move around in their area in attempt to off-balance the defenders.
- Once the attackers off-balance the defenders, the person with the ball attempt to pass the ball from one side and make it across the grid and out the small grid on the opposite side to one of his teammates.
- If the passer is stopped by the defender they switch roles and the passer becomes the defender and the defender becomes the attacker.
Drill Coaching Points
- Encourage players to knock the ball around by passing and moving around in both grids.
- Be patient, and when the opportunity arises, the attackers can dribble across the smaller grid with speed and taking on the defenders.
- Defenders should work as a group of 3 and not 3 individuals.
- Defenders should put pressure on defenders without diving in. A good low stance forcing the defender to the side or into other defenders and getting in close enough to get their hands in on the attacker.
