The Sharks and Minnows dribbling drill is a fun soccer game that is excellent to introduce pressure while dribbling. This fun dribbling drill is an ideal go-to drill for practice or game warm-up.
Drill Setup
- Create an area about 20X20 yards. Adjust the size of the field based on age, number of players, and their skill level.
- Designate two players to start as the "sharks;" they begin by holding an alternate jersey in their hands.
- The rest of the players start with a ball; they are the "minnows."
Drill Instructions
- Start by having the minnows dribble around inside the grid.
- The sharks attempt to get the ball away from the minnows, and if they are successful, these two players switch roles.
- If two sharks get stuck in the middle for a while, stop and switch out the sharks.
Drill Coaching Points
- The dribbling players must stay patient with their head up to avoid the sharks.
- Instruct the players to dribble to space.
- Dribblers should hold the ball close and attempt to use their body to shield the defender until space opens up.
